I bought this with the Amprobe PM-60 in a kit. I have not been able to try the PM-60 but the siocket tester works great. the kit also came with the VT201A which I have no idea how to use. the directions packet only covers use of PM-60. this product kit needs a better cunsumer use manual.

This item was purchased in a PK100R Electric Test Kit. One item in the kit had a user manual included. This item (socket tester) had no information….none….zero…..nada….on its use. O
An on-line search of the Amproble.com site was useless. No user manual available there. If you don’t already know how to use this item, don’t buy this kit. The company has nothing in the kit that is the least bit helpful. Whatever help I have gotten was from a general home repair publication at my local home supply store. I am taking the whole kit back tomorrow.

Thank you for your review. The instructions for the ST102A Socket Tester are printed directly on the label of the product which advises you if an electrical socket is wire properly or if it has a specific wiring problem such as reversed wiring, open grounds, etc.

This is a great product. I borrowed one to use cause my wall sockets weren’t working. Tested them one out of the four were bad so had to change one outlet by using the amprobe socket tester saved alot of time and work. I recommend having one in your tool pouch. I have one now handy tool.

Works Great – Instructions Need Improvement Though
For the DIY’er this is a great product. As a first time home buyer of a foreclosure, not having the ability to get a full inspection was one of the worries of our purchase. However our electrician friend walked us through the entire house, and showed us what was working properly and what needed fixing/replacing immediately.
His magic bag of electrician tools was packed full of AMPROBE tools. I had asked him if he won a contest or something like that because of all the same branded tools, he replied with “Heck No, I Bought All Of This On My Own, These are EXTREMELY reliable and durable tools!!”
He showed me which devices did what to the various things in our home, and on the last day before he was done, he told me that there was a present out on the breaker box for me.
He put a ribbon on this socket tester and a breaker tester with a note saying “Happy House Warming”!

Anything from the multi testers, ampere testers, to circuit breaker tracers and their receptacle socket testers… I have yet to find any of their tools that have failed to perform as expected. Great quality tool!
I am a commercial electrician and have been on large jobs were i use this tester hundreds of times in a week. I have several of these same testers for countless years now no problems, the gfci feature is nice too. This works perfect and holds up to some rigorous abuse in my tool bag. With multiple i can quickly track down circuits. A very simple tool i would not work without.

Great tool box buddy for DIYers
I had the occasion to track down a bad recepticle in my shop and replace it one day. This little gadget, picked up a yard sale, (I recognized the Amprobe name and snatched it up) made my day so much easier. I was able to pop it in to each recepticle socket and was not only able to quickly find the culprit, but I was reassured that the circuit was off before swapping it out by checking a recepticle in line with the bad one.
